2 dog On January 30th, 1914, the American steel liner MONROE on voyage from Norfolk, Va.
to New York with passengers and general cargo, sank after a collision in fog with SS NANTUCKET, off the Winter Quarter Lightship, 32 miles northeast of the Cape Charles Lightship.
MONROE sank in about 10 minutes time in 15 fathoms deep water.
41 people, 19 passengers and 22 crew lost their lives.
